Who Should Apologize First?

SJT VideosI hope you’ll take two and a half minutes to watch this first of many videocast installments here at MM on “Sloppy Expectations in Marriage.”

Part of the reason I’ve decided to add videos is:

  1. I’m still having arm/hand/tendonitis issues and typing adds to that problem. Creating a video is less “typing-intensive.”
  2. I’ve always wanted to add videos as another way to communicate helpful content to you our followers/readers.

So, without further adieu …

Is this something you like and want to continue at MM or do you prefer not to watch videos?

What other “sloppy expectations” did you or do you have in marriage?

  1. Loved getting to hear and see you, Beth! 🙂 I’m not typically a big video watcher, but I knew this would be good and I wasn’t disappointed. Thanks for sharing that it doesn’t matter who started it; let me be the one to finish it.

    1. Thanks so much for your encouragement, Lisa! I couldn’t believe that I actually pulled all the elements together as something of a techie-novice. I suppose, with all the technology challenges I’ve taken on in the past few years, I’m not such a novice anymore! I teasingly say about this accomplishment, “You can teach an ‘old dog’ new tricks after all!” 🙂 Hugs to you!

  2. This is brilliant, Beth! I so admire your perseverance … if I can’t easily type, I sure can speak!

Love ‘being with you’ again, hearing your voice, gleaning from your wise words …

    1. Thank you so much, Linda! It really is a test in perseverance, isn’t it?! Ey-yi-yi-yi-yi! I’m swimming in the deep end of the pool without my floaties and I’m not drowning! ha! Thanks for your sweet encouragement, my friend! Praying for you!

  3. Beth, I loved this. I think videos are fun as long as they are kept short. (And you pulled that off). Sitting here on my birthday – enjoying my personal day off – spending some much needed LONG alone time with God – drinking my coffee and having some SLOPPY JOE time with a wonderful friend. Smiling as I watch how God is using you and this amazing blog. It has most definitely touched and affected me life in a positive way! Love you!!

    1. Yes, I’m the same way. I don’t have time to watch something that is any longer than 3 or 4 minutes or I’m off and running toward another shorter blog post! Time is a rare commodity in my life these days, as I know it is the same for you! I’m so glad you grabbed your cup of “Joe” and got all sloppy with me, Becky! Thanks for the encouragement! It’s always a lovely gift! Speaking of lovely gifts–love you, my friend!

  4. I love the video, Beth! You are so funny! I am the same way and very much a work in progress! Does it make a difference, if we are quick to obey (to end it) or we drag it out forever (till God has to knock us over the head, sometimes literally!) before we oeby. LOL. I know, in the end it counts that we obeyed. I wish it were easier! 🙂 Thanks for a fun video and important reminder! Looking forward to more!

    1. Oh yes, Ngina, I agree! I wish that it was easier to see our disobedience or pride or whatever, when we’re in the middle of these power struggles with our mates too. Hard-headedness runs in my family! ha! Thank you so much for your encouragement, my friend. It really means a lot coming from you!

  5. Yay for you going all high tech! Thank you for being even more vulnerable by sharing your thoughts via video. It is a venue that will take me some time to get used to but I applaud you. The content was great and of course getting to see you smiling face was so worth it. Happy Week to you!

    1. Yes, it’s not a venue that I’m really used to either, but I know there’s a whole segment of people who love this kind of thing, Mary. I’m doing it mostly out of necessity because of my health issues, but I’m glad that God is stretching and growing me even in a trying situation. Thank you for your sweet words of encouragement, my friend! They mean a lot to me! Hugs to you!

  6. I am a much better reader than listener – but I listened and loved your message. It’s so true about expectations – I think it takes at least 10 years to align those expectations husbands and wives bring into marriage – and I love what you say about forgiveness – sometimes it’s important to just make the first move! Hope your hand feels better soon~!

    1. I am too, Maryleigh. I don’t typically watch videos, although I’m starting to do more of it lately and finding it a lot of fun. I think you are exactly right about it taking so many years to align our expectations with our mates. Some couples never do it and they are the ones that are either miserable in marriage or divorced! Thanks so much for your words of encouragement! Hugs to you!

  7. Loved that and was thinking along the same lines just a couple of days ago. I am pretty much a newlywed still (well, 4 months into the adventure) and most of the time is wonderful. But as always, there are rough days and I hate it when Sam and I have something unsolved between us… (Although there are still times when I am hoping he’d “get the point finally” and apologize first… which he often does…)

Thanks for reminder, Beth. This is my first time on your blog, but I think I’ll be coming back 🙂

    1. I’m so glad you found this relevant and helpful to you, Zee. I totally get that feeling of wanting resolution with my mate when we disagree or I feel let down. And as women, I think we are extra sensitive to these disconnections–making it harder to tolerate. Even though our husbands aren’t “getting the point” at times 🙂 I know that these thresholds in marriage have taught me and my husband how to love each other so much better. Great to meet you, my newfound friend! I hope you do keep coming back!

  9. Very nice. Loved the music and the subtitles and the natural, conversational presentation. Two-three minutes is a good amount of time to deliver an important message clearly and in a friendly way. Like.
