Lord, why aren’t You answering? SJT Video

Spiritual Growth & PrayerI’m finally back today after much vacationing and celebrating of my son’s wedding—not to mention, technical/computer issues bogging me down—with yet another “Sloppy Joe Time.” Thanks so much for your patience with me in this!

Today I’m delving into a sloppy expectation I had with God in regards to my husband and my painful, messy marriage. Sometimes we lose patience with God’s growth process in us and make all sorts of crazy requests of God, instead of waiting on His timing and purposes. I hope my words inspire you to “hold on” to our faithful and multi-tasking God!

What is the “yes” behind God’s “no” for you?

How can I pray for you?

  2. That is a good quote to remember: “God’s “NOs” help us grow.” I like it 🙂

Seeing Aladdin once too often….love that!

Petitionary prayer is a subject with which minds far greater than my own have struggled in vain. But I’ll tell how it looks from here.

What I’m going through now is very likely to kill me, very painfully. It’s bad now (I cannot sit upright as I write this), and worse is to come.

I do not believe that this is a ‘no’ from God; it’s more of an “I can’t”. Not that He is unable, but that to answer my prayer that the pain and the illness are taken away would be to invalidate, here at least, a creation in which the free will to faith is a requirement. Curing the disease would, in effect, kill my potential to share eternity with God as something higher than an angel. It would make me a puppet, moving and smiling at His pleasur, and never at my own behest.

The prayers I make, and those He does answer, are that I can face the fell dawn, and make something of it that will light this dark passage for others.

  4. Love SJT! This was so good (and I love the chevron cups!) God has said “no” to me on numerous occasions and I pout and throw fits like a two year old. I have gotten better, thankfully, but I pray my child-like actions would be more befitting of wonder, awe and simple faith than temper tantrums. ♥

  5. Waiting on God is so hard in our instant gratification society but it is so worth the wait while we lean on God. Loved the video (and chevron!)!

  6. Gosh Beth, you don’t pull your punches (on yourself though!). Remember you are in good company – “Lord, why have you forsaken me?”

I tend not to ask things of God. I think if I started it would just turn into a long stream of complaints. Or rather I do, but the supplications that come out feel more like messages to myself — /this/ is what is really worrying me.

(Green mug a bit easier on the eye I think. You could use it for green tea!)

  7. Oh gosh. God’s always seem so silent. To me especially. But hard as it may be, I never want to let go, because where would I go without Him?

This is a very encouraging post. I needed this.
