Horror-mones

Lately, I don’t know what it is, but I can’t seem to get my emotions to level out. I take that back, they really are finding a level . . . just at the lowest point imaginable! UGH!

Now, I know that there are a lot of reasons why I might feel this way, but I don’t want to bore you with the details, nor give you a lesson in gynecological science. Suffice it to say, “pain in childbirth” wasn’t the only curse God gave women on that fateful day in the Garden of Eden. In all fairness, men share in this age-old curse as well. What can I say? We, women, like to spread the misery around!

But here’s my point, I want to remind you (both men and women) that sometimes messy marriage moments come in the form of hormones or as I like to refer to them, “Horror-mones.” (Or, I forget, perhaps it’s “Hor-ROAR-moans?”) Overkill, you say? Well, what can I say when I’m jacked up on Estrogen?!!!!!

The problem most husbands have with “horror-mones” is that they actually are lulled into believing that this is a normal part of their wives personality. When a man does this he is too close to “the situation.” (And no, I’m not referring to Mr. Six Pack on the reality show, “Jersey Shore!”)

I’m simply saying that a husband needs to not take personally his wife’s rantings and ravings, her Estrogen ups and her Progesterone downs.

She has been abducted by the “Mother Ship.” She has been lobotomized by the Evil Dr. PMS.

My advice to you husbands out there? …
Extend grace to her, for it is the only antidote for this terrible, awful, hormonal torment!
One more thing, I’m convinced that when the apostle Peter was speaking to husbands about the wives being the “weaker” partners,* he had our battle with hormones in mind! Just sayin’.

Now let me say a word to my fellow sisters out there. You also need to take a step back from “the situation” too. Unfortunately, there’s a tendency to succumb to denial when the creeping crud invades your brain. You think that it truly is your husband’s fault for the way your hair turned out that day or for making your boss give you that extra assignment.

But I’m here to say . . . it’s the “horror-mones” talking!!!
Refuse to listen to them, girlfriend!
The sooner you face the cold hard fact that your hormones have overtaken your body and are wreaking havoc on your home and family life, the sooner you can“get a grip” and remember that your husband is NOT THE ENEMY!

In all seriousness, our hormones are not God’s curse (even though they really, really feel like it sometimes), and it goes without saying that our spouses are not our enemies. So all I’m saying is that a lack of grace and forgiveness in messy marriage moments can be.

*“In the same way, you husbands should live with your wives in an understanding way, since they are weaker than you. But show them respect, because God gives them the same blessing he gives you—the grace that gives true life. Do this so that nothing will stop your prayers.” 1 Peter 3:7 (NCV)

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)
