About 30 days ago, I made a commitment with my husband to pray each day together. I have to admit that we didn’t quite make our goal. We probably missed about 5 or 6 times over the past month. But that actually turned out to be a good thing, because I noticed on the days we missed, we tended to get more irritated with one another than on the days we prayed.
Do I dare say that prayer made a difference?
Was it simply a coincidence? Should I just chalk it up to positive thinking or some self-fulfilling prophecy?
Nah, . . . I think I’ll give God the glory for it!
I think this change is very much like something we’re all probably familiar with. Remember the terrible, dark days of dial-up? When it took three days just to log on to your email account?
But then you upgraded your internet connection and it was like the heavens parted—cue the angels singing, right? What a difference the extra power gave to your experience.
What if there were some really small tweak that we could make in our lives and marriages that would pack a powerful punch? Allow me to call this little miracle a Holy Spirit Power Booster (HSPB). The good news is that God give us many powerful promises or HSPB’s in life . . .
And praying with our spouses is one of those HSPB’s!
So when you simply apply God’s promise, you gain so much more than you ever expected.
I’ve already felt God speaking to my heart about another power booster that I’m going to employ for the next 30 days—through the month of June. I’m not going to tell you about it until the 30 days are up. If you come back here in 30 days-ish, you’ll find out why I’m waiting to let you in on the secret and what exactly the secret is!
So, mark your calenders in big sparkling letters around the end of June to check back with messy marriage, okay?

But in the meantime, if you haven’t taken my challenge to pray with your mate every day, then try doing it for the next 30 days. And if your mate won’t pray with you, then pray blessings for them for the next 30 days. Then come back here and tell me if you noticed an improvement in your relationship.
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” –Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)
“The Lord is close to everyone who prays to him, to all who truly pray to him. He gives those who respect him what they want. He listens when they cry, and he saves them. The Lord protects everyone who loves him . . .” –Psalm 145:18-20a (NCV)
“I promise that when any two of you on earth agree about something you are praying for, my Father in heaven will do it for you. Whenever two or three of you come together in my name, I am there with you.” –Matthew 18:19-20 (CEV)
