Realistic Expectations and WW Link Up!

Life Needs Pruning

I’ve just finished a forgiveness series that I’m planning on turning into a free ebook for my current and new subscribers. Yay! 🙂 But in order to do that and to tackle the more-than-I-can-properly-describe-long-list-of-to-do’s, I must take time away from blogging. That doesn’t mean I’m leaving Messy Marriage without a weekly post—actually “repost.”

During my month long sabbatical, I’ll be sharing some older posts that haven’t seen the light of your computer screen for quite some time or maybe never! However, during that time I’m also going to cut out my commenting here and reading/commenting at other blogs.

I hope you can understand and realize that I think that each and every one of you has been such a blessing to me. In fact, many of you I pray for by name each day. Don’t ever doubt that I notice you or am grateful for your support of Messy Marriage—because, believe me, I do and am!!

The reason I named this post “realistic expectations” is because that’s what I’m trying to grapple with a lot lately. I can’t catch up {in all areas of my life} without slowing down and cutting out some things that I love for at least a brief time.

I think this is often a problem in marriages—especially among young couples with young kids. There are so many good things we want to do for our kids to give them every advantage, but our marriages end up suffering as we pour so much into our kid’s lives.

So that brings me to a couple of important questions for you …

What things do you need to cut out, even if briefly, in order to get your life and/or marriage on track?

What hinders you from taking the “pruning sheers” to an area of your life?

FYI, I will be back, August 12/13th to engage with you all again. But in the meantime, please continue to link up here, as I will continue to host Wedded Wednesday—however, silently and from afar!

One more thing: I’d like to give a shout out to the two most clicked posts from last week’s roundup …

Sheila at Longings End was a huge winner this last week with 11 clicks! Way to go, Sheila! If you’d like to read that specific post click here, “You’re child could die! To wives who allow husbands to abuse their children and believe God wants them to stand by their man …”

Ngina over at Intentional Today had some stellar results as well with 7 clicks on her post, “Things Not to Say to Couples Without Kids.” I have to admit, I’ve been an offender in this touchy, but very relevant area, so be sure to check it out!

  1. Awww! Good for you Beth! I’ll be praying for you during your break and know that I will miss your weekly encouragement. I certainly understand unrealistic expectations because I struggle with this tremendously during every school year. It’s so hard for me to give up anything because teaching is so consuming to begin with. The other areas that I am passionate about feed my soul which is needed to bring delight and energy to my life. Such a dilemma. I will need to pray and reflect on this further. Many blessings to you! Know you are loved!!!

You are a blessing! Wishing you refreshing – and efficiency in the work you’re called to do during this time!!!! Right now I don’t think I’m pruning so much as delegating responsibilities to those living in the house and letting them step up to the plate.

I tried to cut back on blogging because my health is really…hmmm. Well, it sucks.

But I’ve found that people consider my voice and input unique, and it’s something they value. Even treasure. (And you don’t know how hard it was for me to write that, because it seems like bragging.)

So I guess I’ll be here, there, and everywhere in blog-land. It’s about me, but it’s not. As best as I can figure, it’s about Him. I just write stuff.

Getting my life back on track isn’t much of a plan. What’s happening with my health is going to be ugly. Cutting and pruning would be Pyrrhic gestures.

Getting my marriage back in shape will take longer than I have to spare, but no worries, I will just act as if the problems of the past didn’t happen. I’ll love my wife regardless, and while I still can, sweep her off her feel.

  11. Beth, thank you for highlighting my post. You are such a blessing and encouragement to me! I have cut back on a lot of things I do online and offline in order to finish my book and keep other priorities. Now the thing for me is learning how to stay there! I think when you slow down there’s lots of ‘formerly-busy-now-quiet-spaces” and I want to cram them with the familiar instead of the new and unsure things. I am learning to stay! Blessings to you and enjoy your time away and be refreshed! Looking forward to the eBook!
